MALC Hospital


MALC Hospital in Karachi has been caring for Leprosy patients since five decades providing comprehensive health care services ranging from diagnosis and treatment to rehabilitation of the patients and their families. Its aim to improve the existing facilities sets a competitive standard of quality for the patients affected by Leprosy, Tuberculosis (TB) and Eye diseases. These patients are from the under-developed areas of the city. Poor communities who have no easy access to the health care services in private hospitals are receiving a variety of health care facilities free of charge from this hospital. The 80 bed hospital is located in the central part of the city and serves as a major referral facility for Leprosy patients from all over the country. It offers a specialty care in the hospital which includes admissions of the patients in wards for ulcer care, reconstructive surgery, treatment of reactions, physiotherapy, laboratory procedures, eye surgeries, X-rays, dental, social rehabilitation, pharmacy, and facilitating outside consultations through networking.

Out-patient Services 
Consultations for Leprosy, TB, Eye and other health concerns
Dermatology clinic once a week by a visiting consultant dermatologist 
Dental unit is attended to daily by a dental surgeon
Child Outpatient clinics: Two child specialists are working voluntarily once a week
Health Education and Awareness to patients, families and community. 


In-patient Services 
Admissions: Two male wards and Two female wards for indoor admissions, in case of Leprosy complications, reconstructive surgery and eye operations.
Reconstructive surgery: for deformed Leprosy patients once a week. More complicated cases are attended to once a year in a surgical camp by an expatriate reconstructive surgeon. 
Ophthalmic services: includes cataract surgery, and treatment of other common eye diseases.
Child Outpatient clinics: Two child specialists are working voluntarily once a week
Health Education and Awareness to patients, families and community. 

 

Diagnostic Services 
Laboratory is providing bacteriological examination and routine clinical tests for patients admitted as well as in the outpatient department. The services include skin smears, sputum smears, hemoglobin, erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), urine and stool tests.
Radiology department: for required radiological examinations 

 

Additional Services 
Physiotherapy: attends to Leprosy, TB and Eye patients for prevention and treatment of deformities and pre and post operative exercises after surgery.
Shoe department: provides custom made shoes to Leprosy patients 
Pharmacy: is providing essential drugs prescribed by medical officers to the patients and their families attending outpatient clinics and those admitted in the hospital.
