Breast Cancer Awareness Session
Breast Cancer Awareness Month began in 1985 as a partnership between American Cancer Society and the pharmaceutical division of Imperial Chemical Industries, also known as ICI. Whereas the Pink Ribbon, was started in 1992 by a Cosmetic Company as a nation-wide campaign, where they handed over 1.5 million pink ribbons to the people as a reminder of the month.
MALC organized a Breast Cancer Awareness Session on Friday, October 23, 2020 at the Head Office to express moral support for women with Breast Cancer, as it mostly affects them and to increase awareness of the disease. All participants donned a pink ribbon and wore a pink face mask to show their support.
The Legendary singer Ms. Shabana Benjamin (The Benjamin Sisters) who was among the special guests, shared her personal experience in the fight against Breast Cancer, encouraging women to self-examine, for early detection, diagnosis and treatment, to regularly follow-up on one’s treatment and to not neglect themselves. Ms. Shabana Raees, who has been working at MALC as a ward girl for over 15 years, shared with the audience her current fight against Breast Cancer and thanked MALC for the overwhelming support. Dr. Iram Nadia Khan delivered a speech on the signs and symptoms of Breast Cancer. Mr. Mervyn Lobo, CEO – MALC also spoke on the occasion.
Ms. Shabana Benjamin accompanied by her husband Mr. Andrew Peter later visited Dr. Ruth Pfau Museum.
